Northern Westchester Interfaith Council Choirs to Perform April 3 In Celebration of “A Nation of Immigrants”

In honor of Neighbors Link’s 10th Anniversary, choirs from the Northern Westchester Interfaith Council will come together to present an Interfaith Choral Celebration on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Fox Lane High School.

The theme for Neighbors Link’s 2011 anniversary year is “Celebrating A Nation of Immigrants.”  The concert will be free to the public and feature choirs from the Council’s participating congregations as well as a singing group from Neighbors Link. The event, an interfaith celebration of unity and support for the immigrant community, will take place in the Fox Lane High School auditorium at 4:00pm. A reception with refreshments will follow.

“We are immensely flattered and gratified by the recognition of the Northern Westchester Interfaith Council and these wonderful congregations,” said Carola Bracco, Executive Director of
Neighbors Link. “Neighbors Link is so fortunate to have the support and partnership of this enlightened community. Together we are leading the country as a model of how communities can come together in positive ways to educate and empower immigrant families. We are so grateful for the acknowledgement this extraordinary event brings to our efforts.”

Jason Nevarrez, Associate Rabbi at Temple Shaaray Tefila of Northern Westchester and President of the Northern Westchester Interfaith Council, said “We will come together on April 3rd to pay tribute to an amazing organization, which has been at the forefront of pursuing education, work and justice for the Latino population here in Northern Westchester.  Our faith community will raise our Interfaith Choral Concert voices in sacred song to offer gratitude and thanks for Neighbors Link’s 10 years of service to our community. We hope you will join us!”

The Northern Westchester Interfaith Council congregations participating in and sponsoring the concert include: Antioch Baptist Church (Bedford Hills), Bedford Presbyterian Church, Bet Torah (Mount Kisco NY), Hospice Care in Westchester & Putnam Counties, Katonah Presbyterian Church, Lutheran Church of the Resurrection (Mount Kisco), Pound Ridge Community Church, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church (Mount Kisco), St. James Episcopal Church (North Salem), Temple Beth El of Northern Westchester (Chappaqua),
Temple Shaaray Tefila of Northern Westchester (Bedford Corners) and United Methodist Church of Mount Kisco.  A group of singers from Neighbors Link (Mount Kisco) will also perform.

The Interfaith Choral Concert was the brainchild of Rabbi David Greenberg, Senior Rabbi at Temple Shaaray Tefila of Northern Westchester, who said, “Music is one of the highest ways through
which the soul expresses itself.  And when we join our voices together in songs of unity, we cause the divine presence to be felt in our midst.”

The Northern Westchester Interfaith Council (NWIC) is comprised of clergy from different faith traditions across Northern Westchester. Five times a year, we gather to not only learn from one another (and other community leaders), but to unite ourselves in fellowship by pursing important and worthy causes that affect the local population.

Over the past three decades, members of the Council
have been responsible for establishing the Emergency Shelter Partnership, The Katonah (now Northern Westchester) Community Shelter, and the Mount Kisco Food Pantry. Additionally, members have joined together in numerous petitions and letters of support for various issues that impact the community at large right here in Northern Westchester.
