After striving to keep the kiddies occupied during the school vacation last week, moms are feeling the need to escape. This week’s escape plan is yoga.
Once moms escape to a class, the dichotomy of yoga is apparent. While yoga allows them to evade the constant demands of their offspring, it also requires that the participant be “present” to garner the full benefits. At the beginning of a class, the instructor informs participants that all concerns and items on the day’s to-do list must be put aside in order to properly focus on the task at hand. Then, this restorative form of stretching and relaxation takes place as the students progress through a variety of poses.
Places to practice yoga abound in the area. At Club Fit and the Saw Mill Club, hatha and vinyasa yoga is taught for all levels. Some classes include a meditation component as well. In addition, private instructors offer individualized sessions at a client’s home or yoga studio.
At the end of a class, moms relax on their mats in the savasana pose. Soothing music plays. If mom succumbs and falls asleep, dinner will just have to wait.
