Ex-Pound Ridge Mail Carrier Is Sentenced For Larceny
Tensy May Smith gets six months in county jail, but is released because of time served. However, she is still on probation and must pay restitution.
Tensy May Smith, a former mail carrier who pleaded guilty to charges involving theft along her Pound Ridge route, was sentenced Thursday.
Smith received six months in Westchester County Jail. However, she was released because she also received credit for time served, according to Lucian Chalfen, a spokesman for the Westchester County District Attorney's office.
Smith is now on probation - which she was also sentenced to - and must pay restitution for the items she took, according to Chalfen. So far she has repaid $13,000, and the remainder is a "commensurate amount," Chalfen said.
Smith was arrested in January and was accused of stealing more than $200,000 in items, including Netflix DVDs and caviar. She pleaded guilty in May to charges of second-degree grand larceny and first-degree scheme to defraud, which are both felonies.
