Kisco Shops Boost Fox Lane Sports Boosters
Portions of daily proceeds from three merchants are going to help the group.
Several businesses in Mount Kisco are lending a hand to the Fox Lane Sports Boosters Club this week, setting aside some of their revenue for donations.
Greg Raue, treasurer of the boosters, noted that it's not only a fundraiser but that they're partnering with people in the community. In particularly, residents in each town that is part of the Bedford Central School District are encouraged to shop. The fundraiser is the first of its kind for the boosters, according to Raue.
"I'm all for supporting youth sporting activities," said Luigi Olinto, owner of BGR (The Burger Joint). "I think sports teach life lessons. Dedication and hard work and how athletes deal with losing because there lives will be faced with many hurdles and obstacles."
Olinto noted that he played hockey when he was in college, and that his son plays sports in high school.
BGR was the first to partake in the event, hold its portion on Tuesday night. Today, Frannie's Goodie Shop will be running the special all day long, donating 15 percent per purchase, if you mention the Fox Lane boosters. On Thursday, Acadia on Main will give 15 percent of all sales, with the deal running from 6-9 p.m.
"It's a perfect fit for us," said Christine Caruso, a manger at Frannie's. She noted that the store does a different fundraiser each quarter. Past groups that have benefited included Mount Kisco Child Care Center.
Formed in 2009, the boosters have developed and following, and Raue says that they have done well with fundraising.
"It's an ongoing success story," he said about the group.
Going forward, Raue is interesting in expanding the concept to other parts of the school district, in Bedford and Pound Ridge.
