The unusually mild and dry winter weather abruptly changed this morning as snow began falling before dawn and continues to fall throughout the morning. Up to six inches is expected in most of the Hudson Valley.
People drove carefully along treacherous roads as plow crews began the task of clearing the snow from roadways and parking lots. Residents cleared snow from their cars and shoveled the sidewalks, driveways and steps of their properties, while children dressed in snow clothes grabbed sleds and headed for the nearest slopes.
Many scheduled activities have been cancelled or postponed, and their are numerous flight delays at all area airports according to WCBS radio.

In the areas of the Town of Cortlandt where I was today including Croton, Montrose, Peekskill and Buchanan, snow totals were right about six inches.

Even though we only had about 5 inches, the roads were immaculate in Harrison. The Highway Department was out all night and did an amazing job. I had an appointment in Scarsdale at noon. The streets in Harrison were the best that I was on. I was really disappointed with the conditions on the Hutch. They could take some lessons from our Highway Department.

Hey Clarkstown, why do we need two guys in one plow truck? Is it really necessary to pay two guys overtime while one just rides along?

I'm not sure how it works in Harrison but a friend of mine worked for the highway dept. in Pleasantville in the 80s and they have 2 guys in the trucks because they are often plowing all night with no sleep and the passenger is there to keep the driver from dozing off. Is it an excess?? Probablly, unfortunately we are being raped by municipal employee unions while unions in the privat sector are becoming almost non existant

RGD32162-Don was talking about Clarkstown and not Harrison. From the trucks that I saw in Harrison, there was only one guy in the truck. This afternoon I was in Rye and Mamaroneck and there roads were not that great. In Mamaroneck everyone throws their snow into the street after the trucks are done plowing. It makes the roads unsafe. In Harrison our roads are picture perfect. I would rather pay an extra dollar or two in my taxes to make sure that the streets are clean so that people, in addition to myself do not have an accident.

@NAO, I can't believe I made that mistake about the town Don was talking about, guess because it's the Harrison Patch. I agree with you 100% about paying to make sure the roads are completely clear and safe. i also wasn't trying to bash the highway departments in general just passing on what my friend had told me back then as to why the trucks are manned by two people.

Just uploaded some photos of Mount Kisco and New Castle. Merchants and patrons reported slow downtown activity but the hills at Leonard and Gedney parks were busy with sledders.
