Mt. Kisco Library Hosts Lynn Academy of Irish Dancers

Dancers perform for the public.

Everyone was Irish at the Mount Kisco Library Tuesday. At least everyone who met up in the Community Room to watch the Lynn Dancers perform.

With the unfortunate cancellation of Mount Kisco's St. Patrick's Day Parade Saturday, local residents were given another opportunity to celebrate the Irish holiday. The Friends of the Mount Kisco Public Library hosted the event, featuring traditional Irish dance.

About 50 audience members watched enthralled as the young entertainers performed an array of dance routines in their colorful outfits.

While waiting for the performers young audience members discussed the forth-coming holiday, promising to wear green clothes and to eat green food at school. The family-friendly event delighted the many young library patrons who tapped their feet to the music and swayed as the dancers did Irish jigs.

"My kids love this kind of music and dancing," explains Craig Morris, a resident of Mount Kisco who was attending the event with his two daughters. The free event was just one of many family programs offered each month at the library.

The Lynn Academy of Irish Dance & Youth Fitness has studios in Tarrytown, New Rochelle and Stamford, and offers an array of classes to both children and adults.

According to the academy, while many of the dancers are not Irish, their goal is to teach Irish culture through the instruction of Irish dance. The popularity of Riverdance and Lord of the Dance helped to kick start an interest in the style of dance, and Lynn Academy hopes to sustain this interest.
