About $30,000 has been raised as of this past weekend by the United Methodist Church of Mount Kisco from its annual pumpkin sale, according to an organizer.

Joanne Hall, a parishioner who is helping out with the sale, said the figure is the gross amount earned.

"This has probably been the best year ever," she said.

Having reached the threshold, the church will get to keep 40 percent of the amount. Proceeds from the total will go to several area charities, including The Community Center of Northern Westchester in Katonah, and the Emergency Sheltering program for the homeless, which involves helping the homeless. Tips will go to the Mount Kisco Interfaith Food Pantry, which operates out of the church.

The Methodist Church collected the pumpkins, plus several oddly shaped gourds, in two shipments from a Navajo reservation in New Mexico. The first shipment was a full truckload, with about 2,500, while the second was about 1,700 worth, according to Hall.

The high point of the October sale came with past weekend with the church's annual Pumpkin Patch festivities, which included face painting and a bouncy castle.

While Halloween is now less than a week away, there's still time to snag a pumpkin. Hundreds remain, according to Hall, and the church will continue selling.
