Nice Day For a Walk
Unseasonably mild weather has folks enjoying the great outdoors.
At this time of year you can usually count on people being bundled up and the site of snow plows, people digging and slushy streets. But as temperatures reached 60 degrees Saturday, only sweaters and light jackets were needed--a pair of shorts even made an appearance--as Hudson Valley residents went walking, bicycling, rollerblading and skateboarding. The day proved perfect for a game of catch or frisbee and frolicking on the playground. Tomorrow's weather promises to be just as nice, and with a storm predicted later this week, get out and enjoy it!

The Rockefellar Estate (in Pleasantville) was like heaven yesterday. 448 was lined with cars for about a mile.

Why don't you cover more local walks and trails? Gedney Park and Leonard Park also get a fine selection of citizens with or without their fourlegged friends on gorgeous
winter days like the ones we have been experiencing. We also have an abundance of fabulous nature trails and sanctuaries throughout our towns that you should encourage us all to visit. Bring your camera and great talent along, Stu, and hit the trails!

Hi Ebba,
Thanks for weighing in! In the past, Stu has done photos at both parks. They're both very nice! As for going forward, I'll reiterate what Bill wrote below.

I'm apprehensive about getting pounded to make up for the warm temps. Last year the snow started to fall a couple days after Christmas and it kept coming and coming every week for 2 months. There wasn't even a melt-off. 2011 was first year the tracks were covered the whole winter. With October's snow and present temps, I am tempted to feel tricked the winter is over and spring is close. However I know that 2 ft of snow can show at any moment. Snow is pretty but in the Highlands with steep hills and utility poles its a pesky thing I can do without.

Ebba: Thanks for the suggestions. I was at one of my favorite walking spots Saturday ... the river trail along the Hudson River at Nyack Beach State Park, beneath the towering cliffs of Hook Mountain.

Thanks for the suggestions and compliments. As Tom mentioned I have been to some of those places in the past and will be there again in the future for different stories. Nyack Beach State Park is another great place I intend to go to visit.

Hi Ebba - Thanks for the suggestions, too, and I'll just add that this story was shared with all of our Westchester sites, and if you'd like to add any shots you may have gotten this weekend, you can click on on "add photos" and do that here. Or, you can always add photos to the Chappaqua Mt. Kisco Patch Neighborhood Gallery, here: http://chappaqua.patch.com/gallery#photo-8681015
