Local restaurants come to support United Way event.
An array of local restaurants came out to support the United Way of Westchester and Putnam at its annual Top Chefs of Northern Westchester fundraiser.
The fundraier, held Tuesday at the Mount Kisco Country Club, benefits the United Way's Teach Me to Fish...Work Skills for Life program, which provides training for people who have difficulty in finding employment, according to Naomi Adler, the group's president and CEO.
With the bad economy, there has been more demand for the support, which is geared towards the disabled and the poor.
“This is the population we really needed to focus on," said Adler.
The event helped to highlight the restaurants in the same way that the group highlights its jobs program, according to Adler.
“They get a leg up by having people eat their great food, and we at the same time get to sample their generosity," she said.
This is the third year that the United Way has held the event.
Local restaurants present included Lexington Square Cafe, Bellizzi, Mt. Kisco Seafood, Cafe of Love, Crabtree's Kittle House and Myong Gourmet.
Attendees were also able to get involved in a silent auction, with prizes featured from local businesses, such as Susan Lawrence and La Tulipe Desserts.
Jon Everin, a chef attending for Mt. Kisco Seafood, said there were a lot of great chefs and "a lot of great food."
Isi Albanese, owner of Bellizzi, said it was its first year participating.
"We're new comers," he said.
Albanese said there were a lot of smiles and that people love the food.
