Concert combines book-based lyrics with different musical cultures.

Take your favorite Harry Potter story, set it to the music of The B-52's and you get The Blibbering Humdingers, the North Carolina-based husband and wife duo of Kirsten and Scott Vaughan, who were one of four players of a relatively new form of music culture that played before a small but spirited audience at the Mount Kisco Public Library on Tuesday night.

"It encourages literacy by writing music about books" said children's librarian Dierdre Johnson, who with her sister and counterpart at the North Castle LIbrary, Mary, formed another performing duo called "Gringotts Grrls."

They were joined by "Swish and Flick," another married couple from Yonkers, and the evening's final performer "Witherwings," a solo act by Virginia-based performer Mandala.

Johnson says this genre of muscial theatre began about ten years ago by a group from Massachussetts called "Harry and the Potters." She adds that everyone involved, either performers or audience members "seem committed to doing good in the world" noting that if any performances raise money, it goes to charity or relief efforts. The musicians all offset their costs by selling cd's, tee-shirts or as Mandala called it, "merch." Those curious about the culture can consult the "wizrocklopedia" online for information about upcoming performance dates.
