Police: FLMS Evacuated Due to Bomb Threat; No Devices Found in Search

The evacuation was prompted by discovery of threatening message on bathroom wall.

Fox Lane Middle School was evacuated on Thursday afternoon after a message with an apparent bomb threat was discovered, Bedford police said.

The threat was found on the wall of a bathroom at the school, with law enforcement responding at about 2:15 p.m., police said. The Westchester County police bomb squad was called in to assist in searching for any devices. Nothing was found.

The evaucation was made around the time that school is normally let out for the day, so students did not return to class, according to police.

Below is the full text of the message from Hochman posted on the school district's website:

Dear Parents, Guardians and Community Members,

Right at the end of the school day on Thursday, June 2, 2011, a middle school student responsibly reported that there was graffiti of a potentially threatening nature found in a girls’ bathroom.

As a precautionary measure, after school programs were cancelled, sporting teams were relocated in preparation for their afternoon sporting events, and we are currently working with our school safety officer and the Bedford Police Department to investigate this incident. The Bedford Police and the Bedford Fire Department are investigating the situation. We anticipate that the building will be declared “all clear” soon and school will open as scheduled on Friday.

As is age appropriate, we always remind students that it is “Ok to tell” if something bad might occur and as we hear often, “If you see something, say something.”

Thank you,

Jere Hochman,

Superintendent of Schools
