St. Francis AME Holds Health Fair

Event included free health tests, food and merchants selling wares.

St. Francis AME Zion Church held a health fair on a sunny Saturday, which it does  every year in August and April.

Anne Rushing, who is a trustee of the Mount Kisco church, organizes the fairs, and says the event is for the community and for people to become informed about health issues.

In keeping with the event's objective, there were sections devoted to promoting awareness of people's health. Planned Parenthood stopped by with their van and offered HIV testing, Rushing said. Additionally, nureses from Northern Westchester Hospital stopped by, offering blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings, she said.

A number of tables were set up for merchants and groups.

Winnie Wallce-Morgan and her husband, Philip Morgan, are the owners of Show and Sell Direct, and came up from Queens to sell hats and suits.

Winnie said they love to come up, and called the area "God's Country."

Anita Huntt, of a jewlry and lingerie company called Latasia, came up from the Bronx with her jewelry collection. Her merchanise included fashion and bridal jewelry.

Dwight and Monique Dorsey, who run Double Dee's Catering Service, which is based locally in Mount Kisco, came with a large selection of food. They served up wings, empanadas, funnel cakes and sweet ice tea.

Overall turnout at the event was on the low side, said Rushing.

"It wasn't what I hoped it would be, but it's been okay."

She said that the time of the year could be a factor, or there could be other reasons.

Despite the numbers, for Dwight Dorsey the occasion was good, as they still had a lot of people stop by, including friends.
