Northern Westchester Hospital Recognized By US News & World Report as a “Most Connected Hospital” and a “Best Regional Hospital”
The 2012-13 U.S. News & World Report: Best Hospitals was released recently and Northern Westchester Hospital joins a list of top hospitals in the U.S. recognized for their services, both regionally and nationally.
Northern Westchester Hospital was named as a US News & World Report "Best Hospital" regionally in three specialties: urology, gynecology and geriatrics.
In addition, US News & World named Northern Westchester Hospital a “Most Connected Hospital.” In order to receive this recognition, NWH "met three challenging standards that put them in the vanguard of centers leading medicine into the era of electronic medical records (EMRs)." These standards include:
- Achieving “meaningful use” of an EMR system for e-prescribing;
- Exchanging medical records and supplying data to patients, and;
- Providing data for monitoring clinical quality.
To be considered a “Most Connected” hospital, NWH must have also met requirements put forth by HIMSS Analytics, a healthcare information management society, which analyzes the use of health information technology.
Aside from being considered a “Most Connected Hospital,” NWH ranks as one of the top hospitals in New York based largely on objective measures of hospital performance, such as patient survival rates, and structural resources, such as nurse staffing levels. Each hospital’s reputation, as determined by a survey of physician specialists, is also a factor.
