LaFuente Meets in October: Generational Differences in the Hispanic Community

Panel Discussion on Generational Differences in the Hispanic Community 

White Plains NY – La Fuente, a coalition of organizations committed to providing current resources and information to the Spanish speaking population in Westchester, will host a panel discussion to explore the changing forces at work due to immigration and generational differences within the family. Founding member Westchester Independent Living Center will host the September 18th, 10:30am meeting at their fully accessible offices, located at 200 Hamilton Avenue, 2nd floor, White Plains, NY.  

Organizations currently working with the Spanish speaking population or organizations that would like to develop more effective outreach are encouraged to attend.

 Moderated by Tamaris Princi, Minority Outreach Coordinator at Westchester Independent Living Center, the topic will be explored with Dr. Iris Pagan, Executive Director of the Westchester County Youth Bureau and Zoe Colon, Executive Director of the Hispanic Resource Center of Larchmont and Mamaroneck

 The panel will discuss the role of family and societal demands within the county and will include specific ideas on how to outreach and serve Hispanics effectively. Following the panel discussion will be a question and answer period. 

Dr. Iris Pagan has more than 25 years’ experience as a science teacher, principal and superintendent and is the Executive Director of the Westchester County Youth Bureau where she oversees programs that fund, monitor and support non-profit agencies and organizations providing programs and services to youth. A former member of the Hispanic Advisory Board Dr. Pagan is an active member of the community serving Hispanics and understands the dynamics of immigration, pressures put on youth and struggles of the senior population  

Since July 2009, Zoe Colon has presided over Hispanic Resource Center of Larchmont and Mamaroneck. As executive director she has guided the center’s growth with programs and services strengthened, increased financial support from foundations and government, and has moved agency to a highly visible storefront location in the village of Mamaroneck. She successfully launched Construyendo Nuestro Futuro (Building Our Future), a comprehensive workforce development program that responds directly to the needs and strengths of the new immigrant low wage community of Westchester.  She currently serves as Board Treasurer for the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, Board Member for the 100 Hispanic Women of Westchester and appointed member of the Westchester Domestic Violence Council.  Ms. Colon is currently an adjunct professor of Latino Studies at Lehman College and has taught at the City University of New York since 2006. 

 Resources for community organizations on better outreach for better outcomes will be available.
