Hazardous Weather Outlook: Flash Flood Watch May 16 in Northern Westchester

The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch for northern Westchester County from noon until late tonight.

A slow-moving cold front is the culprit. It will not only bring heavy rains but possibly also thunderstorms in the afternoon. Total rainfall predictions range from 1-3 inches in places. The heaviest rain is expected to coincide with high tide.

With the ground already wet, small streams, rivers and brooks across the lower Hudson Valley might react quickly to heavy rain and overflow their banks, the NWS said.

Monitor forecasts and be prepared in case the Watch is upgraded to a Warning.

The good news, according to Hudson Valley Weather, is that the cold front will leave us with less humidity and comfortable temperatures over the weekend.
