Mt. Kisco's Call to Action for Sandy's NYC Victims

Village gets the word out about helping people in Staten Island and Queens.

(Below is a copy of the village's help announcement):

To Anyone Interested in Helping the Victims of Hurricane Sandy,
If you have been feeling the need to do something, anything, for those suffering the effects of Hurricane Sandy, here may be your opportunity. Some of us at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mount Kisco are putting together an effort to help those in Staten Island, Breezy Point and the Rockaways.
The area surrounding the parish of Our Lady Queen of Peace, New Dorp, Staten Island, one of the parishes at which Father Bill Damroth served, has been hit especially hard. Rosalie Scala, a parishioner there, has provided us with a list of items that would be very helpful:
·         Non-perishable foods and beverages – remember they do not have electricity
·         Heavy Duty Battery-Operated Flashlights and Batteries
·         Contractor size heavy garbage bags
·         Shovels
·         Mops
·         Rubber gloves
·         Bleach, Lysol, antibacterial cleaning products
·         Purel
·         Air Filtering Masks
·         Socks - tube socks are fine
·         First Aid Kits - especially peroxide and antiseptics
A member of our church, Tim O’Malley, has learned of a collection being made for Breezy Point and the Rockaways via the Aisling Community Center located in Yonkers. They need:
·         Diapers
·         Baby Wipes
·         Blankets
·         Towels
·         Clothes
·         Non-Perishable Food
·         Toiletries
·         Water
If you have, or can purchase, any of these items, please drop them off at the rear entrance of the St. Francis of Assisi Rectory, Dakin Avenue entrance, onTuesday, Nov. 6 from 3:00-5:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. If you are unable to make those times or if you would rather donate cash/check for us to make purchases for you, please contact Joann Spolzino at 914-666-7826 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting            914-666-7826      end_of_the_skype_highlighting or joann.spolzino@verizon.net.
Lastly, we will need volunteers to drive their cars to Staten Island to deliver these donations. (Tim will arrange to get the items to Yonkers.)  Our goal is to get them supplies on Thursday afternoon. Please let us know if you might be available.
P.S.  Please feel free to circulate this email to your family, friends and neighbors.
THANK YOU on behalf of the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
