MTK Tavern, Artists to Hold Sandy Hook Concert

Four Westchester County-based bands will get together Sunday to perform for a benefit meant to support those affected by the mass shooting at the Sandy Hook School in Newtown, CT.

The event will start on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. and is being hosted by MTK Tavern in Mount Kisco. 

The concerts are billed as part relaxation and part fundraiser, with a promotional flyer reading, "Just come and hear great music, eat, drink, and donate to aid the victims of this senseless tragedy."

The concert was an idea from the band Slick Trixie, one of those who will perform.

"We put the benefit together because all of us have children, and needless to say, this was an event that was as heartbreaking as anyone could fathom," Allison Horn, a band member, wrote to Patch in an email. "Music heals the soul... It's a passionate expression of your deepest feelings... So we thought what better way to try and give off some healing energy than through the power of music."

Horn said that all of the proceeds will go to the Sandy Hook School Support Fund, which is partnering with the United Way and is meant to provide funding for support services to families and the Newtown community.

Speaking on behalf of his business, MTK owner Jeffrey Rosen said they're "more than happy" about the use of the space.

The bands performing are: Slick Trixie, The Turnback, Pumping Ethyl and the Tessera String Band.
