Taconic Opera presents Bizet's The Pearl Fishers

Most opera lovers know Bizet's most famous opera, Carmen, but many find his opera, The Pearl Fishers, to be even more enchanting.  This sumptuous opera weaves a story of ancient tribes of pearl divers in Ceylon (modern day Sri Lanka).  The work is known for its soaring duet between the tenor and baritone choosing friendship rather than their passionate pursuit of the same woman.  Betrayal, forgiveness, sacrifice and love are the timeless lessons of this masterpiece which will be performed in French with translations above the stage (supertitles).  Performances are at the Yorktown Stage, 1974 Commerce Street, Yorktown Heights, NY, on Friday, April 15 and Saturday April 16, 2010 at 8 PM, and a Sunday matinee April 17 at 2 PM.  Single ticket prices range from $32 to $42 with a $9 discount for seniors and students.  For information, tickets or directions: call (914) 245-3415 or email operasopr@verizon.net or visit www.taconicopera.org.

This production is made possible, in part, by the New York Council on the Arts and ArtsWestchester with funds from Westchester County government, corporations and individuals.
