'Will Dance for Food' Raises Funds for Hungry and Homeless Coalition

The benefit performances and holiday market raises money and awareness about the county's neediest.

A showcase of local performers danced for dollars to support the Westchester Coalition for the Hungry & Homeless on Sunday at Fox Lane High School. Bringing the arts community together to benefit others has been the goal for the event—now five years running—said Phyllis Cohen of Bedford, event organizer.

About $10,000 has been raised each year for the coalition, a White-Plains nonprofit that serves the hungry and homeless throughout Westchester County, through shelters, food pantries and soup kitchens.

The show featured an eclectic mix of performances from 14 dance schools including Bedford Hills, Croton, Mount Kisco, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle, Pleasantville, White Plains, Yonkers and Yorktown. Sponsors included Brooklyn's Famous Subs & Pasta, Johnny Rockets in Mount Kisco, Saw Mill Club, Shilo Baptist Church, Spano Plumbing and Young & Barlett, LLC.
