Liberty Tax Service Opens in Mt. Kisco

South Salem owner hosts grand opening on Tuesday with Mount Kisco village officials.

Liberty Tax Service held a grand opening ceremony on Tuesday morning for its new location in downtown Mount Kisco, complete with a ribbon cutting.

The service is owned by South Salem resident Geraldine Cohen, who described it as a “great opportunity.”

Cohen, who is from Ireland and has lived in the United State for about 20 years, lives with her husband, Seth, and two kids, who are 12 and 14. Because her kids are getting older, Cohen wanted to return to the work force. Her previous financial expertises was in accounting when she lived in Ireland.

“This was a thought-out process and it was something that I feel is definitely the right fit.”

Cohen's branch for Liberty is part of a franchise, which has more than 4,000 locations. She purchased the franchise, which has a specific territory, and opened early last month; Cohen reports getting good foot traffic since then.

Asked why she chose Mount Kisco, Cohen cited proximity to home and the mix of demographics for people's income.

“Mount Kisco has it all in that regard," she said.

Liberty will be open full time during tax season, Cohen told reporters after the ribbon cutting. After that, it will be open for 8-10 hours per week. It will also have reequested appointments in addition. Cohen touted availability outside of tax season as a benefit for using Liberty.

Phil Bronzi, president of the Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce, described the new arrival as a “great opportunity” and a “great business.”

Mayor Michael Cindrich was also on hand, and he noted, in general, about getting the word out about Liberty.

Liberty will have several weeks coming up where people of certain groups can file free returns they are: for military and veterans (Feb. 18-24); teachers (Feb. 25 to March 3); police and firefighters (March 4-10); hospital work (March 11-17); people involved in healthy living groups, such as spas (March 18-24); people who work in non-profits (March 25-31). Firefighters, teachers and police are still eligible during each week, even outside of the ones geared towards them.

Liberty Tax Service is located at 115 E. Main St. in Mount Kisco. Its phone number is 914-573-4555 and its fax number is 914-573-4557. The franchise's website is libertytax.com and includes an office location tool.
