Mount Kisco Farm To Close Due To Drop In Business

Mount Kisco Farm, which sells Asian food products, fresh produce and flowers, will close later this summer.

Sonni Kim, a member of the store's owning family, cited weaker business as the reason for the closure.

"Business is slow."

Factors that Kim listed as problems include competition from farmers markets and grocery chains, customers getting turned off by the parking pay station meters near by and a higher cost of produce.

The store, located at 21 S. Moger Ave., must be vacated by Aug. 31, and items are on sale.

Mayor Michael Cindrich wondered why thr store wasn't successful given that fresh produce is in demand. Asked about the pay stations, he noted that they are used in several other places, including New York City, and was not sure why people have had difficulty with them. On the issue of competition, he noted that he did not want a farmers market, during an attempt by one to use the nearby North Moger Avenue lot, due due that concern.
