'Pink-Themed' Events at JV Mall Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

The Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown offers a variety of "pink-themed" activities during October that stress the importance of early detection of breast cancer. Girl’s Night Out is scheduled for Oct. 11.

Throughout October, the Jefferson Valley Mall will Paint the Mall Pink, a community-based, grassroots program featuring educational displays, health fairs, retailer offerings, special events and other activities in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

"Paint the Mall Pink is our way of addressing this very important health issue that affects so many women and families," said Lauren Penchina, director of marketing and business development for Jefferson Valley Mall.

She said they will offer a variety of "pink-themed" activities during the month that stress the importance of early detection and help spread the word about services available in the area.

Activities and events planned for the Paint the Mall Pink include:

  • Girl’s Night Out– Thursday, Oct. 11. Women are invited to enjoy an evening of relaxing, pampering and fun with their moms, daughters, sisters and BFFs during Girls Night Out. They will be treated to makeup demonstrations, free popcorn and pink chips, a fashion show, free samples provided by participating retailers, a chance to win tickets to The Awesome 80s Prom at Webster Hall in New York City’s East Village, and much more. Girl’s Night Out will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Center Court and is co-sponsored by Support Connection, a not-for-profit organization that offers free, confidential support services to people affected by breast and ovarian cancer, and Sears.
  • Spirit Wall of Hope – Throughout October. Jefferson Valley Mall visitors can leave messages in honor or memory of a friend or relative affected by cancer on the Spirit Wall of Hope, which will be located in the Food Court. They also will be able to stop by the Support Connection table, stationed near the Spirit Wall of Hope, to speak with organization volunteers and pick up information. All donations given during the month will benefit the work of Support Connection.
  • Pink Ribbon Pins – Throughout October. Shoppers are invited to stop by Simon Guest Services and pick up a complimentary pink ribbon pin, while supplies last.
