Add to the list of closing Mount Kisco businesses. The restaurant's parent company, Kisco Foods, LLC, announced Wednesday that it will shut down at the end of the year.
The decision to close The Flying Pig, according to Geoff Thompson - his firm, Thompson & Bender provides public relations services to the company - was due to several factors, including the weak economy. There are plans to have the staff get "a comfortable transition" with the closing.
The Flying Pig, which specializes in organic and locally sourced foods, has been a major presence in Mount Kisco for 11 years. From 2000 to 2006, it operated out of the Mount Kisco Metro-North Train station, before moving to its current digs at 251 Lexington Ave. for more space. Nearby , which provides a lot of the restaurant's food, will not be closed.
On the upside for customers, all is not lost. In the restaurant's announcement, it was noted that Chef Leslie Sutter, "will be operating at a new location in the near future," and continue providing her food cart at the Mount Kisco Medical Group's office.
