WCLA – Choice Matters Endorses Catherine Parker

Remember, it is all about who you elect. And right here in Westchester we have the opportunity to elect Catherine Parker – in so many ways our very own Wendy Davis**.

Catherine Parker is a leader who believes elected officials should answer to the voters, not to a political party. She presently serves on the Rye City Council, a seat she was first elected to in 2007. If elected, Catherine will replace Judy Myers who is retiring.

To many it may seem odd to reference Texas State Senator Wendy Davis in an endorsement for a Westchester County Legislator – but when you learn about Catherine it really isn’t a stretch.

I first met Catherine at an Eleanor’s Legacy (EL) event. She immediately directed the conversation to Westchester’s failed clinic access legislation and what we could do to ensure women’s safe access to health care right here in Westchester. The next time I saw Catherine was at another EL event, this one focusing on the Women’s Equality Agenda. She had her daughter in tow because, as she said, there was no better time than the present to learn about the issues confronting women nationally, state-wide and right here in our County. You can't help but be struck by Catherine’s knowledge and compassion.

Catherine, like Wendy, was raised by a single mother, from an early age. Actually, Catherine’s was a three-generational home – her grandmother, her mother and Catherine.  It was a home that got by on limited financial resources and a healthy dose of values. Both Catherine and Wendy learned early on that comprehensive reproductive rights are essential for all women. If a woman does not have control her body she has control of nothing.

Both women ran as “nonpartisan” candidates when they ran for City Council, Wendy in Fort Worth and Catherine in Rye. That means they ran without party affiliation. Both women are now Democratic candidates.

Catherine will fight for all 10 points of the Women’s Equality Agenda every day if elected. She will be a strong gutsy voice for Westchester’s women and families.

She faces a Primary on Tuesday, September 10th.

WCLA – Choice Matters is proud to endorse Catherine Parker for Westchester County Legislature.

* The 7th Westchester County Legislative District is comprised of Larchmont, Town of Mamaroneck, Village of Mamaroneck, Rye City and part of New Rochelle, Harrison, and Rye Town.

**Texas State Senator Wendy Davis is now known for a nearly 13-hour stand against the Texas State Senate “effort to deny women access to basic health care evolved into a people’s filibuster opposing a selfish and out-of-touch leadership that refuses to listen to real families with real hopes.”
