La Panetière Celebrates Its 28th Anniversary With Prix-Fixe Dinner and User-Friendly Menu
A number of complaints appear in M. H. Reed's restaurant review of Jacques Loupiac's La Panetière in Rye in The New York Times (January 13, 2008 issue).
Reed found it bothersome that the menu was not user-friendly (dishes were listed mainly in French), the look of the place had changed and become more contemporary, the names of a couple of the appetizers were misleading, and the white-on-white appearance of a fish entree was boring.
Ah, but what about the food? That was another matter. "Brilliant" and "superb" were among adjectives Reed used to describe the food, lauding the dishes as "carefully crafted, delicious and presented with, well, panache." Calling the restaurant "an oasis," the reviewer gave it the newspaper's highest rating, "Excellent."
Reed would probably be pleased with more than just the food this week.
The special prix-fixe menu for the restaurant's 28th anniversary celebration, to be available in addition to the regular menu from August 6 to 17, is very user friendly. It offers a choice of Atlantic halibut or prime rib eye as the main course and you don't have to understand the French language to select one of the appetizers. The regular menu will also be served.
The 28th anniversary dinner menu follows:
Appetizer:
- Chilled sweet pea and mint veloute
- Heirloom tomato salad, red and yellow watermelon, ricotta salata, lemon olive oil
- Grilled sea scallops and jumbo shrimp, Endive and asparagus salad, mustard Yuzu vinaigrette
- Appetizer wine: 2011 Macon Vilages Jadot
Atlantic halibut. With a pesto crust, vegetable minestrone, Manila clams
- Wine: 2012 Clairette Côtes du Rhone “Les Abeilles” JL Colombo, Rhone
- Wine: 2011 Syrah Domaine La Voute du Verdus, Languedoc
- Chilled lime cappuccino
- Summer Berries Prelude. Layer of Financier (almond) cake, summer berries crème brulee, passion fruit sorbet
- Dessert wine: 2013 Guignolet – cherry wine
Mouthful of sweet savories
The cost is $82 per person without wine or $133 with wine pairing; tax, gratuity and coffee or tea are additional. Dinner is served from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.
