July 30 Hearings Set For Chappaqua Crossing Retail
The Chappaqua Crossing retail plan will be back on the New Castle Town Board's agenda after members voted Tuesday night to schedule a July 30 date for a series of ongoing public hearings pertaining to legislation needed for the project to move forward.
The hearings, which were last on a board agenda in late April, are for a rezoning petition to enable the retail, along with proposed changes to the town's master plan for it, according to Town Attorney Clinton Smith.
Not included is the final supplemental environmental impact statement (FSEIS) for the project. Town officials and board members have given input for the first half of the document, while staff now have the second half, Smith said. The FSEIS is a successor to a draft version of the document, which was the subject of a public hearing, now closed, that wet concurrent to the other items in the spring.
Developer Summit/Greenfield is seeking rezoning for part of the site to have 120,000 square feet of retail space, include a grocery store of 36,000 to 66,000 square feet. Some residents oppose the plan, citing concerns about traffic impact and a belief that it could result in the creation of a new business district and compete with existing merchants. Summit/Greenfield argues that the plan will not hurt merchants.
