Hillary Clinton Hospitalized Due to Blood Clot [UPDATES]

Secretary of State and Chappaqua resident is admitted to New York-Presbyterian Hospital, according to multiple media reports.

Multiple media outlets are reporting that, according to Clinton's doctors, the clot was found in her head.

CBS and the AP report that the clot is "in the vein in the space between the brain and the skull behind the right ear."

Clinton did not suffer any neurological damage or a stroke, the media outlets reported, and that she is expected to fully recover.

The State Department has posted a statement on its website confirming Clinton's hospitalization. Below is a copy of it, with quotes added:

"In the course of a follow-up exam today, Secretary Clinton's doctors discovered a blood clot had formed, stemming from the concussion she sustained several weeks ago. She is being treated with anti-coagulants and is at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital so that they can monitor the medication over the next 48 hours.

"Her doctors will continue to assess her condition, including other issues associated with her concussion. They will determine if any further action is required."

Original Story:

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been hospitalized due to a blood clot caused by a concussion that she sustained earlier this month, multiple media outlets reported.

Clinton, a Chappaqua resident, was admitted to New York-Presbyterian Hospital and is being treated with anti-coagulants, the Associated Press reported. According to the media reports, State Department Spokesman Philippe Reines said the clot was discovered on Sunday during a follow up medical exam following her concussion. The secretary will remain hospitalized for 48 hours, according to the AP.

Clinton suffered from the concussion earlier this month after fainting due dehydration from a stomach virus.

Another thoughtful contribution from Rockland County.

At least, in this comment, there was no insult, you are making (slight) progress.

nyack--where is the concussion http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7239146n football players get "real" concussions every now and then, i never heard of one being treated for post concussion blood clots. soccer player deliberately get more of an impact every time they head a ball. Hillary did not bang her head on anything. she tripped and fell because she could not see over her gut. had she hit her head to stop it while her brain continued on she would have put her hand to it. she is continuously shaking her head to get her way too long sometimes greasy hair out of her eyes means another concussion? every time. Is this activity hindering her recovery.. I would think so.flipping that huge head can't be good.I mean if there was a concussion in the first place which from the video does not look to be true. since when does a blood clot hinder your ability to testify. and sayitaintsojack is correct except that she doesn't need to tune up. it is a bad habit since Rose if not before.

@Nyack Resident..............you MUST be related to someone at the Patch otherwise how would they continually allow you to call people names and get away with this nonsense? Every time there's a cogent conversation taking place you barrel in with caustic comments. Here's a flash; you're NOT entertaining and you bring NOTHING to the blog that is intellectual or informative. Say hello to your Uncle or whoever monitors (YEAH SURE) the Patch.
Nyack Resident December 31, 2012 at 05:42 PM
I most certainly am not related to anyone associated with the Patch and I am very entertaining, intellectual and informed.

You forgot to say how humble you are.... You are not well informed at all, as you never heard anyone criticize Bush for the embassy killings that occurred during his administration.

Secretary of State Clinton got dizzy and fell while she was sick with a stomach virus. She got a concussion from the fall. Then she developed a blood clot either from bed rest or it's a subdural hematoma from the concussion. As someone who developed blood clots in both their leg and lungs while on vacation in Florida, this a very serious and life-threatening (and quite common) complication. Just ask Mariano Rivera or Serena Williams. I wish her a speedy recovery.

Jean, it wasn't a comment against Hillary...just wishing that our local hospitals were where important or rich people thought of when there's a health crises. It turns out that when she fell, she was at her home in DC, so she wasn't around here. but for the clot, if she was in Chappaqua, I would feel better if she had the confidence in Northern Westchester or WP Hosp. I mean, the richest of rich and the most powerful people travel to Burke Rehab for after-surgery or post stroke care and it makes you feel very confident that there's no benefit to going elsewhere. I once had a WP friend who needed heart surgery and his doctor sent him to NY's Columbia Presbyterian. I drove his wife to visit him every day for over a month because she couldn't drive on highways. I asked her why they picked that hospital when she could have driven herself to visit him every day on her own if she picked a local hospital. She said that their cardiologist said the chances of survival for him were better at Columbia Presbyterian. It just makes me feel badly, but I don't begrudge her for selecting the place she's selected at all.

PATCH................ Thank you for monitoring this blog. It's a great way to exchange informative and timely information but some people use it as a whipping board to express their political frustrations BOTH left & right. That's fine but it needs to be civil and I see where you REMOVED one of the culprit's comments. THANK YOU & HAPPY NEW YEAR.
nancy granitto January 01, 2013 at 05:40 PM
why would a Doctor take a chance and lie about a serious condition like a blood clot,,and that lie would include a whole staff of health providers,,,she is far from stupid,, that lie would ruin any chances of running for president in four years if someone leaked ....

MONEY HONEY & PRESSURE TO COVER UP. Skeletons in the closet? Promises. However it was done, the results are the same....another Clinton escape from a political boondoggle
Paula January 01, 2013 at 06:32 PM
People shouldn't speculate about there being no clot when you don't really know. I recently spent time listening to a friend who hated one of her husbands ex-buddies and didn't want him inviting himself over their house any more. When his wife told them he had cancer and the prognosis wasn't good, my friend was telling everyone what a phony he was and how they made up having cancer as a way to freeload. It's horrible, but the guy died last month from cancer. There are people who make things up for various reasons, but it's best to not say anything...I hope whatever is going on with her health, that she recovers fully. Even if you don't like her, you should be wishing that for her and don't say or write that she's faking....no one on these blogs is her doctor!
Nyack Resident January 01, 2013 at 06:52 PM
It's all semantics Nance, technically a simple bruise can be called a clot. Hillary will be back after the Benghazi hearings are concluded. She is one smart women!
stephany January 01, 2013 at 07:04 PM
whether there is a clot or not it does not prevent her from testifying, what did you know and when did you know it,,,like that.now if you have to keep your lies straight that can get problematic, but a blood clot, that is between her skull and her brain, is not going to hinder her memory. Frankly the fact that they will not allow her to testify points to cover up..there is no real effort exerted when telling the truth, lying and keeping it real takes a lot of work,

When Ross Perot men went missing in Iran he went with a team of x soldiers and got them Hillary let them die Rice lied just a cover up. Ps with brain damage she cant run for president
Paula January 02, 2013 at 12:46 AM
A person with such strong political aspirations wouldn't make up a blood clot. It makes them look not vigorous enough for the position. As for a person with a blood clot still being able to testify, I think most doctors would be telling their patient to avoid stress. I'd worry about a stroke or something. The part that still bothers me the most is why doesn't she use a local hospital and should we all be traveling into NYC for serious health issues. Why not WP Hospital, Westchester Medical Center, Northern Westchester, etc?
stephany January 02, 2013 at 01:31 AM
tell the truth and there is no stress..unless the truth i gonna sink y'all. either way it is suspicious tell the truth and sink or lie and risk a stroke, although the clot is not in her brain it is between her brain and her skull and carries blood away from the brain. and to think the clintons would not stoop to using a blood-clot is to admit you do not know what the meaning of is is
Paula January 02, 2013 at 02:23 AM
There are many people who pay tickets they didn't think they deserved just to avoid the stress of going to court. That's just a small example, but it is common to avoid legal situations when dealing with a serious health issue that could be affected by a stressful setting. I knew a man who was advised by his doctors to drop his involvement in fighting to save the Railside Woods because it was stressful to hear the people on the side of the sellers and developers lie. The person being honest was told to stop going to neighborhood meetings even though he was on the side that wasn't lying. People need to avoid some types of atmospheres until a health crises issue has passed or is under control. I just wonder if this will be the end of her career if this is how her health is going to be.
stephany January 02, 2013 at 03:19 AM
perjury never hurt her husband so why would it hurt her..at least submit a "sworn" statement answering submitted questions, from a hospital bed if necessary, and come into be questioned on it later. be in the hospital bed not because you have to be just in case something happens..which it won't.She raises more stress just looking at her sleezy cheating old man looking husband Bottom line hilary and obama want nothing on the record and under oath, and they are doing everything and anything in their power to make it happen

I hope that clot grows to the size of a beachball.
James Adnaraf January 02, 2013 at 07:52 PM
Wow, the nastiness on this board is over the top. The need to villify someone we may not like is deplorable. A blood clot is a very serious matter, no matter how treatable it may seem. Hillary Clinton is not beyond critcism, but let's have a truce for awhile.
bruiser January 02, 2013 at 07:57 PM
James i agree, just because people do not like her doesn't mean you wish bad for her,i disagree with her political views on many issues but i for one will wish her well.
Paula January 02, 2013 at 08:42 PM
Yes, if you don't like what she does when in office, then just hope she retires or gets defeated in her next election. It's pretty sick to wish for her blood clot to grow.
