A Thank You from Whispering Pines of Chappaqua

by Beth Hungden

Last week, a fire took hold in our building, completely destroying our shop and the apartments above. All of our upstairs neighbors made it out of the fire with no injuries, but everything has been lost.

I would first like to A VERY special thank you to the fire crews, who have worked through the night to subdue the fire. Such an amazing and supportive network of volunteers we have. I would also like to thank Robert Greenstein, Jennifer Cook, Grace Bennett,Vicki M. Lange Bergstrom, Crabtree's Kittle House and Russell Maitland for their incredible support during this difficult time.

While the families displaced struggled to find new homes, our community united to help them get back on their feet.

Whispering Pines is my never ending project of life that motivates me every day. It is how I change a little corner of the world for the better. It is what feeds my children and puts a roof over our heads. It is my heart and soul. Last week’s fire set us back a few steps, but it has been followed by nothing but amazing support.

If you asked me a week ago, I would have told you that we would be back.  But, I never would I have imagined it would be so soon.  I was immediately contact by our Town Supervisor, Rob Greenstein, who began helping me look for new space.  We then discussed sharing space with Suzanne Lodge at Chappaqua Blooms.  After being introduced to Suzanne, it was discovered that she had actually sent me an email a day earlier offering her space.  I never received that email.  Suzanne has been incredible.  I'm so happy to announce that's Whispering Pines is up and running in Suzanne’s store at 83 South Greeley Ave!  I still can't believe it.

I also received offers from other merchants to sell my flowers out of their stores.  I even received offers from residents to sell my flowers out of their homes.

Through the ashes of this blaze, I am continually reminded of how PROUD I am to be a member of this incredibly generous community. I am only left with tears of joy.  I feel so lucky to be a part of such a wonderful community. Truly, this would have never been possible without all of your help, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
