MKES Student Honored for Fire Safety Act

After Mount Kisco volunteer firefighters held a fire safety assembly before a large crowd of Mount Kisco Elementary School students, one of them was honored for getting his family safely out of a home.

Ronald Martinez, a 4th-grade MKES student, was presented with a certificate in recognition of his act and given thanks.

Martinez's action came on June 20 at his home on Boltis Street, according to second assistant chief Al Bueti, when he noticed smoke and fire coming from a basement apartment. Before the firefighters arrived he managed to get family members out, including his brother and aunt.

Speaking after the assembly, Sue Ostrofsky, the school's principal, felt that there was a chance to interact with kids, who might be interested in firefighting.
