Write-In Vote for Mt. Kisco Mayor

My name is Patric Kilkenny and I am running as a write-in candidate for Mayor of Mount Kisco.  The Office of the Mayor should be held by an individual who can actually bring solutions that will change the Village for the better. This Village needs a drastic new approach before it’s too late. If we do things the way that they’ve always been done, then things will remain the way that they always have been – logical, no?  And that, at this point, means a continued decline not only in the quality of our lives, but the safety of our and our children's lives.  The current Village Board [all Democrats] are trying to eliminate, disband, reorganize, use whatever phrase you want, the substitution of the Mount Kisco Police Department with the Westchester County Department of Public Safety.  I, as well as many other residents are against this forced travesty.  We have the lowest paid department in the County and we have had our police department since 1877.  They create the sense of vitality which a police department should engender;  they are not just a law enforcement mechanism.

Now the Village Board of Mount Kisco wants to spend $600,000.00 to buy more property.  The Village is not, and should not be in the business of becoming the largest landowner in Mount Kisco [which it actually already is...] and the exponential result of becoming the largest landlord; buying property when we can’t even pay our police officers a decent wage is horrific.  The Village should be divesting itself of property and selling off all of its interests in land and real estate, not buying more buildings and other assets which the Village does not need, nor do its residents want.  How much more money are we going to spend this year buying property?  We cannot afford to increase the size of our police department, that now has only limited patrols in the evening and not enough patrols to even conduct necessary police functions during the day;  the Village hasn’t promoted anyone to police chief in almost two years; it is time for the residents to say enough is enough!

As to illegal drug use, I would ask our police department to make periodic walkthroughs to address the use of drugs and make the entire Village a drug-free zone, which would increase the penalty for a drug crime.  We have a great police department and addressing its needs would help to enhance the safety and security of our community and its citizens.  We have burdened them with duties which cannot be addressed because of their situation and the lack of manpower for which they must contend.

The Village is intent on raising parking fines 100%.  That will not be a remedy for the continuing closing of businesses, nor the creation of new business.  I would institute an Enterprise Zone, much akin to Jack Kemps' idea and giving businesses tax incentives to open new business which would increase revenue to the town through sales tax, create jobs and promote community activisim.

I would enforce the laws we have on the books already regarding keeping Mt. Kisco beautiful [storeowners cleaning their sidewalks everyday] instead of spending more countless thousands of dollars on a beautification program.  Yes, you heard right a "beautification program" which will do nothing if we don't have businesses to visit.

Finally, we see the theme of this Village Board when we spend $55,000.00 on new tennis courts at Leonard Park.  If that were not enough waste, that included making the tennis court floors "blue" to match the Open in Forest Hills - well, whoop di doo...great way to spend taxpayers money.

Other areas which strain the credulity of a thinking person; like, you ask?  Like leasing the old post office [which is beautiful inside - you should go in sometime] to the Village Attorney's law firm for $12.50 per square foot in 2011 on a five-year lease.  But wait, to top that - the lease was approved by the Board of Ethics, because Mr. Singleton is the Village Attorney; but guess who is an ex-officio on the Ethics Board?  Right, Whitney Singleton.

These are just  a few of the issues of which Mount Kisco residents should be concerned.

Soon enough the Village Board will be distributing Champagne to anyone who has any idea on how to spend more and more and more of the taxpayers money.
