Frosty the Snowman Returns to His Armonk Roots for Annual Parade

Armonk's most beloved resident draws holiday revelers from as far away as New Jersey and Long Island.

Legend has it "Frosty the Snowman" songwriter Steve Nelson was inspired by his hometown of Armonk when he wrote the famous tune. This weekend, Armonk celebrates its ties to Frosty with an annual parade, launched in 2010.

The streets were aglow as the sun set over the tiny hamlet Saturday evening. The annual Frosty The Snowman Winter Walk drew visitors from New Jersey, Long Island and many neighboring communities.

Fire engines decked out in holiday lights drew squeals of delight from children, and a dixie band marched along with scouts, athletes, local officials and others as spectators put aside the chilly air temperature and enjoyed the holiday spirit.

The parade was followed by the town tree lighting and a walk about town was encouraged by local merchants offering discounts. A concert was later held at the library.
