Downed Tree in New Castle Shuts Down Harriman, Cuts Power [UPDATE]

Con Edison is on scene, police said.

Update: As of midnight on Thursday, power has been restored, according to Con Edison's updated numbers.

A large tree in eastern New Castle fell and took down power lines in the process, police announced through an online Nixle alert.

The tree, which was in front of 159 Harriman Road, is blocking the street, police said. Power outages have occured on Harriman and nearby Byram Lake Road. 

Con Edison is at the scene and working on restoration, police said, and full restoration estimated after overnight work.

The power company's online outage map lists 45 New Castle customers without power as a result. The map gives a 7 p.m. estimated restoration time, according to data as of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. (For the latest date, click here for the map).

The town's Department of Public Works (DPW) will be on the scene tomorrow to remove debris, police said.
