Giants Owner's Nephew is Charged with Assault

The 22-year old nephew of John Mara, who lives in New Castle, turned himself into Fairfield, CT police on Friday for allegedly hitting a man with a bottle at a New Year's Eve party, according to police.

The suspect, whose name is also John Mara, is charged with first-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. He posted a $150,000 bond and is due to appear in court on March 8.

Mara is a New Castle resident; his home is located in the Mount Kisco postal zone.

According to police, the incident occurred on Fairfield Beach Road near Fairfield University and the victim, whose name has not been released, received "serious life-threatening injuries that required immediate surgery."

Both Mara and the victim are Fairfield University students, police said Monday.

Mara's lawyer Willam Dow told The Journal News that Mara plans to plead not guilty to the charges. A spokesperson for the Giants said no comment would be released by the team.

A branch of the Mara family also has Bedford ties, including actresses Kate and Rooney Mara, reports have noted.
