Mary Kennedy in Trouble Again, With DWAI-Drugs Arrest - Update

The wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was pulled over in Pleasant Valley, NY.

Mary Kennedy, wife of Robert Kennedy, Jr., is in legal trouble again and has been charged with Driving While Ability Impaired with drugs, or DWAI-drugs, after a traffic stop Saturday.

State police said she was pulled over on the Taconic State Parkway, in the Dutchess County, town of Pleasant Valley on Aug. 21 at around 7:51 a.m. According to field tests done by police, it was determined that she was impaired by drugs at the time of her arrest. She is due to appear in Pleasant Valley town court on Aug. 26 at 5 p.m.

Capt. Robert Nuzzo of Troop K said the woman was caught driving at 82 mph at the time. She was brought to police headquarters in Poughkeepsie, where tests revealed that she had prescription medication in her system, Nuzzo said. He said that she was also charged with speeding, a violation.

Kerry Lawrence, Kennedy's attorney, told The Journal News that she was on her way to a yoga class at the Omega Institute, which is in nearby Rhinebeck. As of Tuesday morning, Lawrence has not responded to requests from Patch for an interview.

Kennedy was arrested for DWI in May in Bedford, after a Bedford police officer reported her to be intoxicated when she was encountered near the driveway of St. Patrick's School. At that time, she recorded a .11 BAC level in a sobriety test, well above the state's legal limit of .08.

Kennedy pleaded to a lesser offense of DWAI last month in Bedford town court. Her license was suspended for 90 days, and she was required to pay $500 in fines. Her suspension, however, had conditional driving periods.

According to Nuzzo, no charges with regards to violating the conditional suspension are listed. Lawrence, in his Journal News interview, said that Kennedy was within the terms of her conditions when she was heading to the Omega Institute.

Stanley? Honey, look up "maudlin" in the dictionary, then get a thesaurus to say what you REALLY mean.

It was a bad idea to issue a conditional drivers license to her and I stated so at the time. She of all people could afford a car service and did NOT need to drive. I don't remember so many postings on any subject before on the Patch . All the OMG's what are you all "valley girls" ?HaHa. It is time to start making our dwi's and dwu's more painful for the people that commit them. Look around the world and see how other countries deal with the problem. Our death rate from drunk driving is still TOO high. Look out for your friends when you are at a party. Take their car keys when you see that they are in no shape to operate a motor vehicle. Have some guts to do so. They may be mad at you at the time but will thank you the next day when they recover from the alcohol. It is sometimes hard to do the right thing, isn't it? Safe travel.

Stanley, "The rich control this country and are close to destroying it, but it doesn't seem that the ordinary citizen can figure it out". What planet have you been living on? It is the progressives that are destroying this country not the rich. From those who have to those who don't is the motto. Sound familiar, it is the from the Communist manifesto. I do think that you have been in the public school system too long. Learn from history, communism does NOT work and neither does socialism.

upars, you must be related to Stanley. You are both reading from the same play book. The level of .08 does target people that drink and drive. This is a REPUBLIC and as such we elect representatives to represent us. I know this may be a hard thing for some of you out there, but that is how it works. I only say this because it seems to me the "new" generation really doesn't know how our government works much less the constitution. If you don't like the law that was passed by our representatives than elect someone that does represent your view, better yet run for elected office.
