Report: Mount Kisco Police Officer Arrested, Accused of Assault

Mount Kisco Police Officer James Whalen was arrested, police Lt. Patrick O'Reilly confirmed.

Whalen, according to information from police and in the newspaper's report, is accused of striking a woman in her face with a closed fist and leaving her with injuries including bruising and swelling. He is also accused of repeatedly striking a man in his face with a closed fist and leaving him with swelling. Additionally, Whalen is alleged to have harmed the women in the presence of her daughter, 2, while she was seated in a vehicle.

Whalen's charges, according to police and the report, include third-degree assault, third-degree attempted assault and endangering the welfare of a child, which are all misdemeanors. 

The events are alleged to have taken place Thursday at around 7:20 p.m. and in front of a location on Carpenter Avenue in Mount Kisco. Whalen was arraigned on Friday, released on his own recognizance and suspended without pay, according to O'Reilly. 

The criminal aspect is being handled by Westchester County police, while the Mount Kisco Police Department has oversight regarding his personnel status. Whalen surrendered to county police on Friday, O'Reilly stated.

O'Reilly referred further inquiry to the county level.
