MTA Police Probe Death of Man Found in Burning Car

When officials responded to a report of a car fire Sunday afternoon in the parking lot of Metro-North Railroad's Purdy's Station, they found an unresponsive male—who was pronounced dead a short time later—inside the vehicle, according to authorities.

Members of the MTA Police and the New York State Police came upon the late model Chevy Tahoe burning at about 4:15 p.m.

The fire was extinguished by the local firefighters. The occupant, who was about 40 years old, died of burns sustained during the fire, police said. The Westchester County Medical Examined is conducting an autopsy to determine identity and official cause of death.

Detectives from MTA Police are continuing the investigation.
