Police: Asians May Be Burglary Targets

The New Castle Police Department reports that two burglaries took place in Chappaqua and Millwood. Police believe, given the fact that both victims are Asian, that race was a factor.

New Castle Police are warning that two recent burglaries may have been racially motivated.

In an online Nixle alert sent out Monday afternoon, police stated that reports were received of a burglary on Chappaqua Mountain Road in Chappaqua and Surrey Lane in Millwood. Both victims, the alert noted, are of Asian descent.

The Millwood burglary report came in on Nov. 5, police said, while the Chappaqua burglary report was given on Monday.

This is not the first time that racial bias has played a factor in local crime," police noted.

"In 2010 New Castle Police arrested 3 burglars that we believe were targeting people of Asian decent. Although the investigation is in the preliminary stages, we to warn New castle residents that it is possible that homes owned by people of Asian decent are again being targeted."
