Someone is Rummaging Through Cars in Chappaqua

Remove valuables, lock your cars, warn the New Castle police.

Twice in the past week, New Castle police have received reports that someone has rummaged through unlocked cars in local neighborhoods.

Last week several reports were received from around Old Roaring Brook Road and Brandon Drive, said police Lt. Dan Cannon. A laptop and tablet were taken from one car. Others had nothing taken but had items visibly disturbed, such as small change thrown into back seats.

This morning police received a similar report from around Roaring Brook Road. A resident reported personal documents and a pair of sunglasses had been taken from an unlocked car, while items of small value were moved and left.

Police sent out an Advisory urging residents to remove valuables and lock cars, even those parked in driveways.

New Castle has experienced several thefts from cars left unlocked and parked overnight in driveways. Some of the unlocked cars had valuable items left in plain view. The thieves are targeting unlocked cars during the overnight hours.

Please remember to lock your cars at night and remove any valuables which may present a temptation to break into your car. Please report any suspicious activity or persons right away by calling Police at (914) 238-4422.
