S. Moger Reopens, Con Ed Checks Underground Cable

Smoke from a manhole prompts Mount Kisco Fire Department to evacuate businesses and shut down the street during afternoon.

South Moger Avenue, one of Mount Kisco's main retail roadways, was closed for part of Tuesday afternoon.

Mount Kisco Fire Chief Tom Jackson said the department received a call at around 11:10 a.m. about a smell of smoke and flickering lights at the People's United Bank on South Moger Avenue.

After the call, firefighters then discovered smoke coming from a utility manhole in front of Sleepy's and a decision was made to evacuate nearby businesses.

While workers have been let back inside for now, Con Ed is checking the feeder cable underground, Jackson said. A compromised feeder cable would result in cutting the power until it's fixed.
