Cell Tower Proposed by Route 128

A cell tower is being proposed for a property off of Route 128 in New Castle and will be reviewed tonight by the planning board in connection. The proposal requires its approval of a special permit and a wetlands permit.

The applicant, Homeland Towers, LLC, is working with Verizon Wireless on the proposal, which is for 620 Armonk Road, according to submission documents. The site is about 22 acres and is owned by Alfredo Landscape & Development Corp.

In its submission material, Homeland states that it looked at several other sites near by but that owners contacted did not respond or declined.

The proposal calls for constructing a 150-foot monopole with multiple antennas, along with a compound of 5,376 square feet, according to the application material. The project would affect about 0.12 acres.

The intent of the tower is to help address a coverage gap, according to information submitted.

The tower is not the first that Homeland has proposed in New Castle. In August 2012 the planning board gave approval for a 130-foot tower for the West End of town, located at 50 Hoags Cross Road. That tower, which Homeland proposed for AT&T, encountered opposition from neighbors and was given approval more than a year and a half after it was first proposed. A building permit for that tower cannot be granted until code violations on the property are cleared. That matter has not been completed, according to a planning secretary.

The full submission material for the new proposal can be found at this link on the town's website. The planning board meets tonight at 7 p.m. at town hall in Chappaqua.
