Referral Vote for New Chappaqua Crossing Plan is Tonight

The New Castle Town Board will vote on whether to refer the latest Chappaqua Crossing retail plan to the planning board and Westchester County's Department of Planning, according to the agenda for tonight's meeting.

Referring the proposal would amount to a denial of a request from site owner Summit/Greenfield for the town board to skip it for the new plan, which includes a 40,000-square-foot Whole Foods grocery store and 120,000 square feet of total retail space. At last Tuesday's work session, John Marwell, the owner's attorney, made the request to the town board.

Marwell felt that a referral was not necessary and told the board that there was no significantly changed impact compared to the last iteration. Both iterations were for the proposal's preliminary development concept plan (PDCP), which is for building layout.

The original PDCP, submitted to the town in October 2012, had a grocery store located in the old cupola building and an adjacent structure, while the new one has the grocery store in a freestanding new building on the southern part of the site. The new PDCP was submitted to the town earlier this month.

The town board meets tonight at 7:45 p.m., according to the agenda, and will be at town hall in Chappaqua. The agenda, plus a packet containing the resolution, is at this link.
