County Legislators Honor Intel Finalists, Semi-finalists

Two students from Horace Greeley High School were among those honored.

The Westchester County Board of Legislators honored a group of high school students from the region who were selected as Intel Science Talent Search finalists and semi-finalists, including Horace Greeley High School students Jiayi Peng and Angela Liu.

The board announced its honoring on Monday, with more than 20 mentioned.

“Year after year, Westchester high school students prove themselves as being among the nation’s best—in the classroom, in athletics and in their communities,” board Chairman Kenneth Jenkins said in a statement. “Tonight, we honor this remarkable group of Intel Science Talent Search competition finalists and semi-finalists and congratulate them on their academic commitment, unceasing efforts and cutting-edge intelligence. It is also important that we recognize that these students received a lot of support from parents, other family members and guardians in their quest for excellence. But there is one undeniable reason why Westchester can point to so many top science, tech, engineering and math students: the quality of our schools and the educators who are dedicated to ensuring a meaningful future for our children.”

Three out of 40 finalists, including Greeley's Peng, are from Westchester. The other two are Chris Traver from Croton-Harmon High School and Ossining High School student Daniel Conor McQuaid.

The results for the finalists, including a winner, will be announced in March. Prize money can range from $20,000 to $100,000 for the winner.

The semi-finalists honored, in addition to Liu, were: Daniel Fulop and Kevin Pawlak (John Jay High School); Gregory Fishberger, Jonathan Tyler Bricker, Christopher August Di Capua, Zachary Blum and Rose Lynn Arditi (Byram Hills High School); Jeewan Naik and Colette Mary McCullagh (Pleasantville High School); Tanvi Tiwari and Linus Hamann (Yorktown High School); Simon Zheng (Somers High School); Kathryn Elizabeth Evans, Madeleine Minke and Jamie Tanzer (Scarsdale High School); Alex Lubkin (Blind Brook High School); Mark Moretto (Briarcliff High School); Sam Rude, Eitan David Rude and Caleb Hersh (Ossining High School); Joby B. Bernstein (Mamaroneck High School); Chloe Wang (Dobbs Ferry High School).
