Governor Weighs in on Votes for County Executive, Casinos

Cuomo, at press conference, says how he voted on county executive, gambling amendment, but stays mum on New Castle Town Board.

After voting Tuesday morning at the Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco, Gov. Andrew Cuomo talked with reporters for an election-day press conference.

The governor discussed voting and acknowledged that he voted for the Democratic candidate, challenger Noam Bramson, for Westchester County Executive.

Bramson, the mayor of New Rochelle, is looking to unseat incumbent and Mount Pleasant Republican Rob Astorino. Cuomo has publicly endorsed Bramson.

The governor also volunteered to say that he voted for a proposition to allow for casino gaming.

“We don't do it well, we don't regulate it well, we don't get the revenues we should,” Cuomo said about the status quo. He noted that what are allowed currently are "Racinos," which are definied in various reports as being a combination of casino and racing facility.

The governor, who lives in New Castle, feels that allowing casinos would help with economic growth in New York State and notes that nearby states already allow them.

Cuomo, however, declined to say how he voted in the election for New Castle Town Board, although he did endorse the Democratic ticket, which comprises of Penny Paderewski for supervisor, along with John Buckley and Michael Wolfensohn for two council seats. The ticket is running against the Team New Castle slate, which has Rob Greenstein for supervisor, along with Adam Brodsky and Lisa Katz for council seats. Team New Castle hold the Republican and Independence Party ballot lines for the election.
