Under fire for a controversial comment on Facebook, Nan Hayworth spokesman Jay Townsend has resigned, her campaign announced Monday.
"Jay Townsend has offered, and I have accepted, his resignation from his position with my campaign," Hayworth (R-Bedford), said in a statement. "Now let's return to talking about issues that really matter to families: job creation, spending restraint and economic development.
Controversery had been brewing since Townsend made his comments on May 26 in a post to the NY19 U.S. House of Representatives Civil Discussion Center, in a conversation about gas prices.
