NWH Garage Material Delivery Moves Forward

Leonard Park mostly skipped as pass through, while Routes 117 and 172 are used.

Northern Westchester Hospital has started transporting materials for construction its parking garage.

Transport of the pre-cast materials began last week, NWH spokesman Mark Vincent confirmed. The garage, which will have 496 spaces and be two stories tall, has a June 2013 completion goal, Vincent explained.

The transportation route largely avoids using Leonard Park, a route that the hospital proposed last summer and was met with worried reception from Mount Kisco Mayor Michael Cindrich, who noted at a village board of trustees meeting earlier this year about the potential impact on residents who use it.

Instead, both sides confirmed, NWH is mostly using a combintion of Routes 172 and 117, with limited use of a park strip called "Little League Way" for truck repositioning. That strip is at the intersection of St Marks Place and Route 117, according to Cindrich.

"This minimizes the impact on local traffic," Vincent wrote to Patch in an email.

Cindrich also believes that the alternative scenario is better than the Leonard Park proposal, forgoing a tractor trailer switch with a crane that could have been implemented under the park pass-through scenario.

The village and NWH agreed to several time limits for transport, both sides confirmed. The transportation is allowed for a half hour before sunrise (going to 7 a.m.) and then from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., largely avoiding school bus traffic. The state's Department of Transportation also agreed, Cindrich confirmed. Routes 117 and 172 are both state-owned roads.

The prognosis from NWH? As the expression goes, so far, so good.

"Progress over the last few days has been very good and there has been little to no impact on local traffic," Vincent wrote. "The project continues to move ahead smoothly and we expect to have all materials on site by mid-December."

Thanks for sharing this with me. I really enjoyed the article. I've been looking around for a good material delivery service. http://www.ccdeliveries.com/
