Sandy: State of Emergency in New Castle

Town Hall closed Monday, while zoning board meeting is canceled.

The Town of New Castle is operating under a state of emergency due to Hurricane Sandy. 

Under the state, which Supervisor Susan Carpenter declared, the emergency lasts from 6 a.m. on Monday to to 6 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1.

Meanwhile, it was announced New Castle Town Hall is closed Monday due to the storm, while the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting, which was slated to start Monday night, has been canceled.

Below is a copy of the state of emergency notice:

DECLARATION OF STATE OF EMERGENCY 

PURSUANT TO SECTION 123-50 OF THE NEW CASTLE TOWN CODE, TOWN SUPERVISOR SUSAN CARPENTER HAS HEREBY DECLARED A STATE OF EMERGENCY FOR THE TOWN OF NEW CASTLE, EFFECTIVE MONDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2012 AT 6:00 A.M. 

DURING THE EMERGENCY PERIOD, IT SHALL BE UNLAWFUL TO PARK OR LEAVE UNATTENDED A MOTOR VEHICLE ON ANY STREET OR HIGHWAY. 

UNDER THE DIRECTION OF THE POLICE CHIEF OR SUPERINTENDENT OF HIGHWAYS, ANY VEHICLE LEFT IN THIS FASHION MAY BE SUBJECT TO BEING TOWED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. 

THIS EMERGENCY SHALL BE IN EFFECT FOR A 72 HOUR PERIOD UNTIL THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1 at 6:00 AM.
