Take a Tour of County's High-Tech Terrorism-Detecting Boat

(This story was written by Krista Madsen, as are the headline and footage)

Introducing Westchester County Police Marine Unit's newest boat.

One-hundred percent paid for by the Department of Homeland Security, the $900,000 boat is fully rigged with state-of-the-art equipment to protect the Tappan Zee Bridge and other area hot spots from terrorist threats.

Patch got a special tour of the boat and its abilities, as it was docked at its homebase in Tarrytown, from its expert, the Marine Unit's Jamie Westbrook.

It will detect nuclear weapons and other threats from miles away and "is as good as a U.S. Navy Seal" boat, said Ossining boat captain Greg Porteus.

The boat is also fully rigged with medical equipment and beds for emergency rescues, which we'll feature in an upcoming Patch Clip. Stay tuned for more.
