Today: Conifer Public Hearings; Mt. Kisco Blood Drive

1. Tonight, the New Castle Town Board will continue two public hearings connected to Conifer Realty's Chappaqua Station affordable housing proposal.

One hearing is for a series of changes to the town's code regarding workforce housing special permits, which will involve allowing for the dimensions of the Retail Business (B-R) zone for special-permit cases, rather than for the General Industrial (I-G) zoning dimensions that would otherwise be used on the site, which is located at the end of Hunts Place. The code changes would also allow for the town board to waive items of a proposal that come into conflict with the zoning, although the zoning board of appeals would be the next body to take an application if such a request is denied.

The second hearing is for Conifer's application for a special permit for the 28-unit apartment building, which has a varying height of three to five stories. Residents have blasted the plan due to its location, and have noted the proximity of the site to train tracks and the Saw Mill River Parkway. At a recent meeting for the hearings, however, supporters argued that having the affordable housing will be beneficial to those who need it and felt that the proposal is reasonable, with the availability of such housing locally noted as a reason.

Conifer is expected to produce financial details about itself for tonight, based on a request from town board members at the last meeting for the proposal, which was two weeks ago. For our previous coverage, click here.
