Tonight: Hearing Continues for Mt. Kisco Parking Fines

Mount Kisco's Village Board of Trustees will continue a public hearing at its meeting tonight for changes to the local code to enable changing the parking fines structure, alterations that would be coupled with increases for 25 out of 99 types of vehicular offenses.

The legislative change involves replacing the current approach to changing fines through code amendments, one that means listing specific maximum amounts for offenses, and replacing it with a fine schedule that the board would adopt.

Under the proposed list of fine changes, a parking ticket fine would rise from $10 to $20, and the most severe fine, which is for parking in a handicapped spot, would increase from $75 to $125.

The board's interest in raising fines comes with a desire to increase revenue amid a rough fiscal climate, according to remarks made at a late-June meeting by Trustee Anthony Markus, who sits on the village's finance committee that is suggesting the idea. With the changes, Mount Kisco's fines would be similar to those of other communities, the committee determined.

The village board's meeting starts tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall, which is located at 104 Main St.
