Town Update: 32 Blocked New Castle Roads with Wires

Town gives update on post-Hurricane Sandy recovery.

(Below is a Sunday update from the Town of New Castle on post-Hurricane Sandy recovery):

We currently have 32 roads in New Castle blocked with downed wires. 4,490 out of 6,574 customers do not have power at the present time. The Town Board and Town Administration are in constant with Con Ed to attempt to get more crews assigned to the town.

All five schools have electrical power, note that there will be no school for students on Monday. All voting locations, with the exception of the West End 134 Firehouse, have electrical power. We will update you on the status of the Firehouse tomorrow. Should power not be available, an alternative voting location will be announced.

Shelters are open at Chappaqua Crossing and showers and charging facilities are available at the Greeley High School.

Please contact town hall at 861-8304 if you have trees down, with NO wires, on your road. A DPW crew will be dispatched to clear the road. Trees down with wires need to be taken care of by Con Ed.

Business users can go to the New Castle Community Media center tomorrow to use the internet and charge phones and laptops. NCCMC is at 400 King Street by Talbots.

Garbage collection will resume tomorrow. Gedney Park will have a truck available from 7:30AM to 2:30PM as well.

Please follow us on Twitter @newcastleny. A suggestion box will also be available at Town Hall for any ideas.

The town board members are in constant contact with con ed to get power directed to where there homes are because that where the priority is...but places in around the town of chappaqua where there are more residences in chappaqua without power than anywhere else and where there is the least amount of downned lines still has no power .....check how many town bd members have power...like all them. They abuse thier position and can go f themselves.

Haven't seen many crews all day. Certainly not 24 / 7 here. Hard to tell what is a reasonable expectation for repair but if no one is here it won't get fixed. A better explanation of what is going on would help.

We need a street by street schedule that is relaible from con ed. There is no schedule just some anticipated dates. The town is unbale to manage the progress of con ed crews because they do not have a specific schedule that can be reviewed 2x per day for progress. Just came from Town Hall. No answers that are relaible. One week is unaccepatable to NOT have reliable information.
